The Innovative Research Award and Distinguished Research Award.

Research Catalyst Award

This Award recognises initiatives by early career art and/or design academics that engage with contemporary challenges in higher education, and/or challenge existing research approaches, and/or challenge existing research approaches, and/or address the diversity of staff and student communities.
(Note: Generally, an early career academic has conferred their PhD within the last five years).

Nomination Process

Self or peer nominations are welcomed with endorsement by Heads of School (or equivalent), and should comprise:

  • A two-page evidence-based statement in the format provided addressing the selection criteria for Award.
  • Evidence that may be in the form of a pilot or case study, institutional recognition or peer review, awards, research metrics.
  • The nominee’s two-page CV, with attention to achievements relevant to the selection criteria in the area of research, including practice-based research.

Selection Criteria

  1. Description and explanation of a doctoral thesis completed within the last five years and/or curated exhibition/s of practice-led research outcomes completed within the last three years, relative to career opportunity.
  2. Evidence of recognition of the research demonstrated through selection for curated exhibitions in recognised galleries and/or museums, and/or peer-review in recognised publications, and/or citation/s in national and/or international conferences, publications and/or monographs.
  3. Research achievements sustained over not less than three years.

Excellence in Research

This Award recognises excellence in research by established art and/or design academics. Excellence may be demonstrated through one or more of the following: significant and sustained commitment to new initiatives in research, the realisation oF substantial research projects of national or international significance/impact, co-ordination, supervision and/or mentoring of staff and/or HDR candidates, examination of higher degree art or design research students, major achievements in learning new initiatives.

Mid-career art or design academic staff are encouraged to apply.

Nomination Process

Self or peer nominations are welcomed with endorsement by Heads of School (or equivalent), and should comprise:

  • A two-page evidence-based statement in the format provided that addresses the selection criteria for the Award.
  • Evidence that may include examples, awards, research metrics, external peer and/or institutional or disciplinary recognition, citations and/or reviews nationally and or internationally.
  • The nominee/s two-page CV, with attention to achievements relevant to the selection criteria in the area of research, including practice-based research.

Selection Criteria

  1. Description and explanation of peer-reviewed traditional and/or non-traditional research outputs (NTROs).
  2. Evidence of recognition of the research demonstrated through national and/or international citations and/or peer-review in recognised publications, national and international conferences, publications and monographs and/or awards.
  3. Proven experience of supervising and/or examining and mentoring HDR candidates to timely completion and/or mentoring staff.
  4. Proven achievements in leading new initiatives.
  5. Research achievements sustained over not less than five years.
