First Nations Catalyst Award
This Award recognises a First Nations art and/or design academic within the first five years of academic employment.
Research and/or education focused nominees are asked to submit their innovative approaches to First Nations’ ways of knowing and living culture in art and/or design. First Nations continuing and fixed term, and casual academic staff are encouraged to apply.
Nomination Process
Self or peer nominations are welcomed with endorsement by Heads of School (or delegate), and should contain:
- A maximum two-page evidence-based statement that addresses the selection criteria.
- The nominee’s two-page CV, with attention to achievements relevant to the selection criteria in the areas of teaching and/or research, including practice-based research.
Selection Criteria
- Description of how your teaching and/or research, featuring practice-based research, contributes to ways of knowing and practice/s in art and/or design.
- Evidence of:
a) how your teaching has benefitted the student experience in art and/or design (examples may include student feedback, feedback from peers, student achievements); and/or
b) recognition of your research in art and/or design (examples may include selection for curated exhibitions or events, peer-review in publications, presentations at conferences and/or forums). - Participation in scholarship of learning and teaching (examples may include relevant conferences, workshops, committees, publishing, and/or research achievements sustained over one to two years, relative to career opportunity).

ACUADS First Nations Academic Award
This award recognises a First Nations art and/or design academic whose approach to pedagogy and/or research, including practice-based research, engages with First Nations’ cultural knowledges and experiences, through existing or embedded ways of knowing, being, seeing, and doing and that seeks to challenge Western oriented social and cultural inheritances within the Academy.
First Nations continuing, and fixed term, and casual academic staff are encouraged to apply.
Nomination Process
Self or peer nominations are welcomed with endorsement by Heads of School (or delegate), and should comprise:
- A maximum two-page evidence-based statement that addresses the selection criteria.
- Evidence may include awards, research metrics, peer and/or institutional or disciplinary recognition, citations and/or reviews nationally and/or internationally.
- The nominee’s two-page CV, with attention to achievements relevant to the selection criteria in the areas of teaching and/or research.
Selection Criteria
- Description and explanation of how your teaching and/or research (traditional and/or non-traditional research outputs (NTROs) has influenced knowledge and/or practice in art and/or design.
- Evidence or recognition of:
a) how your approach has benefited teaching and student experience in art and/or design (examples include student achievements, student feedback metrics, feedback from internal/external peers, how your approach has influenced others); and/or
b) the research through selection for curated exhibitions and/or events, citations and/or peer-review in publications, conferences and/or publications nationally and/or internationally. - Contribution to scholarship/s of learning and teaching (examples may include conference presentation, journal and/or book chapter publications, proven experience of supervising and/or examining and/or mentoring research degree students, and/or mentoring staff, sustained over not less than five years, relative to career opportunity.
