Art and Design serve as catalysts for revitalisation by stimulating economic development, engaging communities and preserving culture, renewing physical spaces, fostering innovation, promoting social cohesion, and supporting environmental sustainability. Art and Design are also imperative in connecting us with one another and the world around us, “with other species, with soil, water and even the universe” (Pestana, 2021).
With this imperative in mind, the 2024 Australian Council for University Art and Design Schools (ACUADS) Conference is embracing the theme of Regeneration, Repair, and Care, as a guiding principle for our collective endeavours towards resilience and revitalisation. The theme encompasses a holistic approach to addressing various disruptions and vulnerabilities within our immediate educational landscapes, and our wider social, environmental, and cultural contexts. Regeneration reflects our capacity for resilience and adaptation, inspiring inventive and transformative practices. Repair underscores the importance of addressing systemic issues, rebuilding communities, and fostering stronger connections within our institutions and societies. Care highlights the significance of creating nurturing and inclusive environments and interactions, prioritising the well-being of all involved.
Within this context, we invite contributions that showcase compelling projects, pioneering pedagogies, and initiatives that embody the ethos of regeneration, repair, and/or care. ACUADS encourages a journey of collective learning and growth, harnessing the power of art and design education, research, and practice to shape a brighter, more resilient and inclusive future.
ACUADS IS accepting paper and presentation proposals which align with this conference theme.
